Our State Parks Another reason we are fortunate to live in West Virginia is the fact that we are blessed with a fantastic system of state parks. Not too many other places offer such beauty in such meticulously cared for state facilities. When it comes to lodging at our state parks, there is something for everyone. You really must take advantage of these special places for a getaway whenever you can. Ten parks offer lodging facilities ranging from intimate to large. All have lodges with restaurants. Eight of the ten also have camping facilities in addition to cabins or cottages.
Lakeside Cottage at Stonewall Resort The three smallest lodges are at Tygart Lake and Twin Falls, each with 20 rooms and at Hawks Nest, which offers 31 rooms.
Lodge Room at Twin Falls Lodge The three largest lodges are Canaan Valley with 250 rooms, Stonewall Resort with 198, and Pipestem Resort with 143 rooms divided between two lodges, one at the top of the canyon, the other at the bottom accessible only by tram.

The larger parks have other amenities such as golf or skiing, too. Smaller ones offer solitude and the simple beauty of nature, a feeling of oneness with the universe. Great Lodging Deal for Winterplace Skiers Skiing West Virginia is great. Several spots offer some of the best eastern skiing there is. Lodging is plentiful and varied. One place that offers attractive lodging deals is the beautiful Glade Springs Resort located near Beckley and Winterplace Ski Resort. Glade Springs is easy to reach off either I-77 or I-64 and has so much to offer year round. Since it is the closest resort to Winterplace, it is a logical and special spot to stay. They are offering something called a Ski Free Package this 2006-2007 season, which is an excellent deal for anyone wanting more luxurious lodging and other amenities while being close to Winterplace. These packages start at just $59.00 per person per night (double occupancy), and they include two free all-day lift tickets at Winterplace. These rates apply for any night Sunday through Thursday (no holidays), and the lift tickets are good for any day Monday through Friday. There are some special weekends and holidays that the Ski Free Package is available for $99.00 per person per night, based on double occupancy. There is something for everyone at both Glade Springs and Winterplace. After skiing, come back to the resort and get rid of any sore muscles with a massage at the Spa. You can enjoy indoor tennis, basketball, or swimming. Bowling or arcades of interest? Winterplace offers 27 trails on 90 acres. It boasts the highest snowmaking capacity per acre in the Southeast, plus 100% snowmaking capabilities on each trail. It also has the largest snowtubing park in West Virginia, with 16 lanes of snowtubing runs. Enjoy the beauty and amenities at both Glade Springs and Winterplace this season.
